Road races have been coming thick and fast over the past few days. As well as the Fota and Fermoy races last Thursday night, the Passage West 10K took place on Friday and the Emer Casey Foundation 10K in Youghal today.
Alex Barry was the first Leevale finisher in the Passage race, followed by Sheldon Kirkwood. The race was held over a tough, hilly course on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, there were plenty of Leevale athletes in action in Youghal today with no fewer than 5 from the club in the top 10 overall. One of these was Lizzie Lee who comfortably won the women’s race in a fast 35:18. Tim Twomey was first Leevale athlete across the line, 3rd place in 33:10. He was followed by Colm Moore in 4th, Rob Patterson in 7th, and Darragh Canavan in 10th. Sinéad O’Connor finished 4th in the women’s race in 38:36, while the improving Colm Murphy won the M55 category.
Further afield, Irene Hartigan was in action in yesterday’s half-marathon in Killarney and finished 6th in 1:34, while Fionnuala Desmond was 2nd in the Dingle mini-marathon
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Helen Leonard ran in the Belfast Marathon and finished 5th overall in the ladies’ race, and 2nd Irish woman home.
