The Cork Marathon, Half-Marathon and team relay event took place this morning in pleasant conditions for running. Nollaig Hunter had another outstanding run to take 2nd in the marathon in 2:50:21, a new PB for her. The winner of the ladies’ event was Pauline Curley in 2:43:47. The top Leevale finisher in the men’s event was Brian Hegarty, who also set a PB of 2:37:13 in finishing 7th overall. Just behind him in 8th was Owen Casey, and Finbarr O’Dwyer wasn’t too far back in 19th.
In the half-marathon event, Tim Twomey was involved in a battle for 2nd for much of the race, but finished 5th in the end after suffered from cramp in the last 2 miles. His time of 72:26 was impressive nonetheless. Darragh Canavan finished 10th in 77:56, with Sheldon Kirkwood, Colm Murphy, Dave McEvoy and Kieran O’Mahony next to finish in 25th, 30th, 31st, and 34th respectively.
In the team relay, the Leevale men’s team kept their remarkable series of 2nd-place finishes going, just over 2 mins behind East Cork in 2:19:36. The Leevale ladies’ team was 13th overall in 2:47:23, the first female team home.
Thanks for the update guys. Fantastic runners. Great to be part of such a great club…….genuinely.
Carol Finn, Michelle Kenny, Helen Leonard , Aisling Moran and Sinead O Connor was the ladies team, in that order.
Leevale men: James Grufferty, Colm Moore, John O’Connell, Eric Curran, Mark Hanrahan
Leevale ladies: Carol Finn, Clare McSweeney, AN Other, AN Other, Sinead O’Connor
Maybe someone can correct me and fill in the blanks for the ladies’ team!
Just wondering who were the runners in the Leevale Relay Teams?
