Three Leevale athletes have been selected on the Irish teams to compete at the European Cross Country Championships in Hyeres, France on December 13th.
Lizzie Lee and Michelle Finn are selected on the women’s team. Both athletes have previously tasted success at the European Cross Country Championships; in 2012 Lizzie was member of the Irish team that won gold in Budapest while in 2014. Michelle was a member of the Irish team that took bronze in Samokov, Bulgaria. This is the first time the two Leevale athletes will compete on an Irish team together.
Ryan Creech achieved his first senior international selection when he was named on the men’s team. Ryan ran a storming race in Santry yesterday to finish 4th, securing his position on the team.
Credit, in no small way, goes to coach Donie Walsh for developing one of the strongest middle distance groups in the country. It was a major achievement and a first for the club to have teams finish first in women’s and second in the men’s in the AAI Senior Cross Country Championships, this is topped off nicely with the three international selections.
