Leevale Women Champions at National Cross Country

Leevale’s senior women’s team were crowned championships for the first time in the club’s history at today’s AAI National Cross Country Championships in Santry. The team was led home in impressive fashion by Lizzie Lee who finished 2nd overall. Michelle Finn in 5th, Sinéad O’Connor 21st and Claire Gibbons-McCarthy in 22nd made up the scoring four.

The men’s team were hoping to put up a serious challenge for the team title this year, with Ciarán Ó Lionáird and Ryan Creech home from the US for the event. They were in the hunt throughout and in the end were just pipped by a point by Clonliffe. Ryan Creech was first Leevale man home with a very impressive run to finish 4th. Ciarán Ó Lionáird was 13th, Colm Sheahan 15th and Bryan Keane 16th.

Charlie O’Donovan ran a superb race in the BU18 race finishing in 6th place. The team finished just outside the medals in 4th place. The result bears well for Charlie who will compete in his own age group, BU17 in two weeks time in Waterford.
