Leevale Gold Fest At Day 2 Of AAI Juvenile Championships

It was a fantastic day of athletics for Leevale athletes on day 2 of the national juvenile championships held in Tullamore on Saturday. Leevale were particularly impressive in the jumps, taking 5 of the titles on offer under the watchful eyes of jumps coaches Denis Murphy and Eilis Ní Fhaolain.

FB_IMG_1469305280524Kyle Ettoh produced the performance of the day when winning the boys U12 high jump with a championship best performance clearance of 1.53m, exceeding the record by an incredible 5cm.

2016-07-24 10.07.07Reece Ademola won the boys U14 high jump with a clearance of 1.60m.  Earlier Reece won the long jump title with a leap of 5.61m. This rounded off an incredible All-Ireland championships for Reece which saw him winning 4 individual titles in total, a feat unmatched by any other athlete this year. Reece had taken the pentathlon and sprint hurdles titles earlier this month.

Daniel Hurley won the boys U15 long jump, elevating himself to 1st place with his final round leap of 5.90m. Wymin Sivakumar finished in 3rd place with a PB of 5.60m with his only registered jump. Harry Nevin demonstrated fantastic composure to elevate himself from 4th to 1st position with a tremendous last round effort of 4.93m in in the boys U13 long jump. Later Harry rounded off an excellent championships for himself when placing 3rd in the 80m in 10.49s.

Conor Morey was a class apart when winning the boys u16 100m in 11.64s. Conor was followed home by Ryan O’Leary who finished in 3rd in 11.98s.

Molly Healy placed 2nd in the girls U18 Pole Vault with a vault of 2.80m.

Rob Twomey and Daniel Hurley took 4th and 5th positions in a very hot boys U15 100m final with both clocking 12.19s. Ella Scott ran a PB of 11.11s to finish 6th in the girls U13 80m final. Other athletes to finish just outside the medals were Sean O’Callaghan, 6th in U19 400m (53.09s), Luke Ring, 7th in U19 100m (11.84s),  Laura Burns 4th in the girls U16 javelin (28.11m), Una Samuels 4th in girls U19 pole vault (2.60m) and Ben Smith, 5th in U17 3000m with a fine PB of 9:33.48.
