Super Performances By Leevale Athletes At All Ireland Schools

Leevale athletes put in super performances at the 2017 All Ireland Schools, with quite a few putting themselves in the reckoning for international selection. 

In the morning sessions, Padraig O’Callahan claimed bronze in the inter boys hammer with a throw of 52.42m. This was followed up with silver for Reece Ademola in the junior boys high jump. Reece cleared 1.8m, just missing out on gold on count back, unfortunately Reece was delayed and did not get compete in his long jump. Wymin Sivakumar then won the inter boys triple jump with a new PB of 12.90m.

Alannah Neff won the first track medal with victory in the inter girls steeple chase. Alannah took an early lead  and continuously pulled away from the field to finish with a resounding victory, her time of 5:09.86 just 0.5 second outside the record time. 

Conor Morey then took silver in the inter boys 100m with an impressive 11.07, edging closer to the sub 11 second mark. Conor won his second medal when he finished third to Colin Doyle in the 200m. Colin 22.50 & Conor 22.54. 

Emily Wall ran a strong sprint in lane 1, to finish in fourth place, however when it came to the sprint hurdles Emily was fast and efficient over the hurdles and finished second. Her time of 11.59 was inside the record time. 

Back on the field Kate Moynihan took silver in the inter girls javelin with a very impressive throw of 42.61m.

In the senior boys 800m Matt Murnane ran a good tactical race to take the bronze medal. Tommie Connolly was pipped on the line in the inter boys mile. His time was inside the previous record. 

Hannah Murphy was unlucky to finish in 4th place in the inter girls high jump, clearing 1.60m, the same heigh as joint second place, she ended just outside the medals on count back.

In the senior boys 1500m, Charlie O’Donovan ran a tactical race sitting in the pack and waiting until 100m to go before kicking for home and pulling away from the field to take victory.

Conor Morey & Colin Doyle helped the PBC inter boys relay team to victory. 

Leevale athletes won a total of 13 medals across the range of track & field events, making this one of the most successful schools championships in quite a few years.
