Leevale Athletes in Action at Munster Schools (updated)

A large group of 40 Leevale athletes represented their schools with distinction at the Munster Schools held in a sunny Castleisland on SaturdayLeevale athletes finished in 43 medal positions with 16 Munster schools titles, including 2 new records and lots of personal bests.

A number of Leevale athletes produced impressive doubles. Alanna Neff took the senior girls 1500m (4:52) and 1500m steeplechase (5:07) titles. Wymin Sivakumar was an easy winner of the Inter boys 100m hurdles (13.88s) and triple jump (13.50m). In the junior girls, Lucy Sleeman took the 75m hurdles title in 11.98s and 100m title in a fast 12.60s, where she was closely followed by Emily Wall (12.69s) to make it a Leevale 1-2.   

Ella Scott set a new Munster schools record when winning the minor girls 75m hurdles in 11.57s having already finished 2nd in the 100m in 12.81s. Conor Callinan also set a new record when winning the minor boys 75m hurdles in 11.61s, having finished 2nd in the junior boys pole vault held earlier in the week.

Conor Morey led a Leevale 1-2 in the senior boys 200m, winning in 22.32s with Dave McInerney not far behind in22.42s. Conor finished 2nd in the 100m (11.08s) where Ryan Okoh finished 3rd.

Aisling Cassidy took gold in the senior girls triple jump with 10.97s and silver in the 100m hurdles (15.40s). Padraig O’Callaghan won the senior boys shot (10.86m) and was second in a high standard hammer competition with 50.82m. Harry Nevin stormed through the field to win the junior boys 80m hurdles in 11.72s, having earlier taken bronze in the long jump with 5.79m.

Charlie O’Donovan was a very comfortable winner of the senior boys 1500m in 4:07.05. Shane Aherne won the senior 400m hurdles at his ease in 58.96s. Sean Naughton won the junior boys hammer with a throw of 42.28m. Katie Moynihan won the junior javelin with a throw of 41.34m. In the junior girls pole vault held in the CIT earlier in the week, Una Brice took gold with 2.40m where Elena Collins finished 3rd.

There was double silver for Ryan O’Leary in the inter boys 100m (11.16) and 200m (22.97) sprints where Marc Jones finished 3rd in both races. Also in the inter boys, Daniel Hurley finished 2nd in the long jump (6.36m) and Tommy Connolly was 2nd in the 1500m (4:35.57).

There were high jump silvers for Hannah Murphy in the senior event (1.55m) and Jessica Lyne with a fine PB clearance of 1.56m, competing a year out of age in the junior girl’s event.  Gabby Bowen took silver in the minor girls long jump with a leap of 4.55m. Abby Fitzgerald finished 2nd in the senior javelin (26.31m).

Athletes to take bronze were Ava Cashman (junior 200m), Holly Umeh (junior shot), Stephanie Bazunu (inter girls 100m), Patrice Holmes (U16 mile), Jack O’Connor (senior 800m), Ben Smith (senior 2000m S/C) and Hugh Collins (junior 80m hurdles).
